The Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA) Must Open Their Doors to All

What Happened?

On March 6, 2024, U.S. District Judge Mark T. Pittman, ruled that the MBDA violated the Constitution’s guarantee of equal protection.

Why Did this Happen?

This is all stemming from the affirmative action movement within the government. Other federal programs, such as the 8(a) program have been affected as well. This is because these programs are designed to target certain individuals/races/ethnicities for help and in turn, disadvantaging others which is in violation of the Constitution, hence, against the law.

What’s the Impact?

The MBDA will remain intact and continue to help socially and economically disadvantaged individuals and businesses; however, they are unable to cater to specific races.

Who is the MBDA?

This federal agency was created in 1969 to serve businesses owned and operated by socially and economically disadvantaged individuals such as African Americans, Asian Americans, Hasidic Jews, Hispanic Americans, Native Americans, and Pacific Islanders. To help these disadvantaged minorities, the MBDA would help these businesses procure greater access to capital, contracts, and markets.
